Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data we collect through this website, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what rights you have.
Who we are
This website is operated by the Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) as coordinator of the project “Back to the Future — Enhancing Futures Literacy through Interactive MOOCs in the Western Balkans” (BTTF). ICS is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. Project partner universities act as joint participants in the educational programme and receive data only where necessary to deliver the MOOCs.
What data we collect
- Application data: first name, last name, email address, country, city, university / institution / organization, your status (student, professor, NGO representative, media professional, teacher or other), the MOOC(s) you select, your short motivation statement and your consent record.
- Correspondence: the content of messages you send us by email.
- Technical data: basic, non-identifying information needed to serve the website securely and reliably, such as browser type and approximate region.
We do not knowingly collect data from persons under 16 years of age.
Why we use your data
- To review and process your application to one or more BTTF MOOCs.
- To contact you about enrolment, course schedules, materials and certificates.
- To produce anonymous, aggregated statistics for project reporting to the European Union as the funder (for example, number of participants per country or per course).
- To keep the website secure and functioning.
Legal basis
We process application data on the basis of your consent, which you give by ticking the consent box in the application form. Aggregated reporting to the funder is based on our legitimate interest and the contractual obligations of the project, and uses anonymised data only. You may withdraw your consent at any time; this does not affect processing carried out before the withdrawal.
Who has access
Access to application data is limited to authorised project staff at ICS and, where needed to deliver a specific MOOC, to the responsible partner institution and lecturers. We use trusted technical service providers for website hosting, database storage and email delivery, which process the data on our instructions only. We never sell your data and we do not share it for advertising purposes.
How long we keep it
Application and participation data is retained for the duration of the project and for the period required for reporting and audit obligations towards the European Union, after which it is deleted or anonymised. If your application is unsuccessful or you withdraw your consent, your data is deleted within 30 days of your request.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to correct inaccurate data, to request deletion, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, write to us at the contact address below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority in your country.
Security
Data is stored in access-controlled systems and transmitted over encrypted connections. Only named administrators can view or export application records. We review access rights regularly and remove them when they are no longer needed.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the project’s activities or legal requirements change. The date of the latest version is shown at the top of this page.
